CHINA-US: PEOPLE'S DAILY ZHONG SHENG ARTICLE ASKS TAIWAN'S DPP TO IMPORT VACCINES FROM CHINA

The People's Daily (June 15) published a 'Zhong Sheng' article calling on the United States to honour its commitments from the Three China-US Joint Communiqués, in which the United States officially maintains a one-China policy. The commentary warns the United States to be careful not to mistakenly give any signs of promoting “Taiwan independence”, otherwise it may cause further serious damage to China-US relations and the stability of the Taiwan Strait. Accusing US Senators of playing the “Taiwan card” to provoke China while under the guise of aiding pandemic prevention efforts, the Zhong Sheng article pointed out that the United States is yet to deliver the promised vaccines, and that even if delivered, the amount is too small for Taiwan’s population of over 23 million people. It said if Taiwan’s Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) really cared for the safety of the people’s health, they would cease colluding with these US senators in political games and allow Chinese COVID vaccines to be imported.
