CHINA-UK: NUMBER OF CHINESE STUDENTS APPLYING TO BRITISH UNIVERSITIES HAS REGISTERED A 12 PER CENT INCREASE

The Times (February 17) reported that record numbers of students from China have applied to study in the UK, with applicants from the country now outnumbering those from Wales. The latest data from Ucas (University admissions service) shows a 12 per cent increase in Chinese applicants to 28,930, making it the second largest overseas market for British universities after the European Union. There were 26,000 applicants last year and 6,900 in 2013. The number from India has also risen.
