CHINA-TIBET: WHITE PAPER

China State Council Information Office issued its thirteenth White Paper on Tibet on April 14, 2015, denouncing the "middle way" advocated by the 14th Dalai Lama as an attempt to achieve "Tibetan independence." The Global Times, commenting on the White Paper, called on the Dalai Lama to "put aside his illusions in his remaining years, face up to reality and adapt his position."  The White Paper said "that the Dalai Lama and those around him, driven by the political goal of "Tibetan independence" ....have been negating the achievements in Tibet". It said the "middle way," which advocates "Greater Tibet" is an attempt to create a "state within a state" on Chinese territory and its ultimate goal is of full independence. Zhu Weiqun, Chairman of the Ethnic and Religious Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) was quoted as saying "This year is the 50th anniversary of the Tibet Autonomous Region, so it is the right time to show the world the region's development in the past half century as well as the Dalai clique's separatist activities."
