CHINA-JAPAN: AIIB

Quoting informed sources Reuters reported on April 19, 2015, that China offered Japan the top-ranking post of the Vice President at the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), but Japan did not accept the offer. The report said that in a meeting with Takehiko Nakao, President of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse in Beijing on March 22, Jin Liqun, a former Chinese Deputy Finance Minister, told Nakao that China wanted Japan to join the bank. He expressed his willingness to travel to Japan and explain Beijing's case if necessary.

(Comment: Jin Liqun, who was a Deputy President at the ADB, is the interim head of the China-led AIIB. He is expected to lead the AIIB, which is expected to be launched later this year.)
