CHINA-NEPAL: RESCUE AND RELIEF EFFORTS

China's official news agency Xinhua publicised China's rescue and relief efforts in Nepal after the disaster caused by the earthquake. China dispatched a 62-member search-and-rescue team, comprising mainly military personnel, to Katmandu along with six sniffer dogs and medical equipment which arrived there by midday on April 26, 2015. Chinese President Xi Jinping said, “The Chinese side is willing to offer all necessary disaster assistance to the Nepalese side.”

Following the earthquake, China’s Ministry of Commerce said it is coordinating with other agencies to initiate an emergency humanitarian plan for Nepal and pledged to deliver relief materials on time. Xinhua said the earthquake has also stranded some 683 Chinese tourists, and four Chinese nationals—a mountain climber, a tourist and two workers with a Chinese company—died in the quake, while five others had serious injuries.
