CHINA-INTERNAL: PLA EXERCISES

 The US-based Chinese political news outlet 'Duowei' reported on May 5, 2015, that China's national broadcaster CCTV had been authorised to to expose cheating in the People's Liberation Army during military drills. The decision, it said, demonstrates the resolve of the country's new generation of leaders in building a strong army free of corruption.CCTV recently aired a report claiming that certain PLA officers fed up with losing during training exercises have been caught cheating and cited various examples.  According to Duowei, such tactics are unsurprising given the large number of corruption scandals to hit the PLA of late. Duowei observed that the interesting point is not that corruption still exists within the PLA but that China's official media is now exposing it unlike in the past when military scandals were usually kept low profile and not publicized out of fears that it could affect morale. Duowei added that the decision to be open about cheating in drills is a reflection of the resolve of the new generation of CMC leaders headed by chairman and Chinese president Xi Jinping. The report also claimed that the CMC set up special training surveillance teams at the start of the year to monitor PLA drills in order to weed out problems so they can corrected adding that such actions are imperative if Xi Jinping intends to truly fulfill his vision of developing an army that is "able to fight, and fight to win." .
