CHINA-INTERNAL: CYBER SECURITY
On July 1, 2015, China's National People's Congress adopted a National Security Law that enables authorities to "take all necessary" measures to safeguard territorial sovereignty and ensure full control over China's Internet infrastructure. A core component of the law, which is of worry to foreign technology firms, is the provision that all key network infrastructure and information systems must be "secure and controllable". In a one-line statement the official news agency Xinhua said the law would "protect people's fundamental interests". (Comment: President Xi Jinping, who heads the newly established National Security Commission, has said China's security covers a wide range of areas, including culture, politics, the military, the economy, technology and the environment.
