CHINA-CAMBODIA: XI JINPING THOUGHT

China's official news agency Xinhua reported on November 8, 2017, that Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia Xiong Bo delivered a 2-hour lecture on 'Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era' to about 120 students at the University of Cambodia that day. Xiong Bo said about the 'Xi Jinping Thought' incorporated in the Constitution at the 19th Party Congress that "It serves as a guide to action in promoting socialism with Chinese characteristics for a new era." Xinhua said he described it as "rich in content, covering all aspects such as politics, economy, rule of law, science and technology, culture, education, people's well-being, society, ecological civilization, national security, national reunification, military, diplomacy and party-building". He also introduced China's Belt and Road Initiative and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank and said Cambodia is the key country and an important partner for China in carrying out the initiative. He said the relationship between the two countries "could be seen as a model for nations to live together in harmony and cooperate for mutual benefits." Before the lecture, Xiong attended the inauguration ceremony of the China Room, a facility for Chinese teaching at the University of Cambodia.

(Comment: It is apparent that Chinese Ambassadors and diplomats abroad have been instructed to publicise and 'explain' Xi Jinping Thought in their countries of posting.)
