Speaking to journalists, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said China will extend a hospitable welcome to all visiting APEC leaders.  While Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe will attend the November meeting in Beijing and Tokyo has often expressed its desire for a meeting between him and Xi Jinping, there has been no confirmation by China that such a meeting will take place. Meanwhile, on October 29, 2014, Chinese President Xi Jinping met former Japanese prime minister Yasuo Fukuda.  Fukuda, who is also Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Boao Forum for Asia, is viewed as a possible intermediary.
