CHINA-NEW BEIJING AIRPORT

China’s National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) announced that it had approved the construction of a new airport in the southern Beijing suburbs to ease congestion and overcapacity at Beijing International Airport. The new airport, which will be designed by Netherlands Airport Consultants, is expected to take five years to build at a total cost of 80 billion yuan ($13.1 billion). (Comment: The existing airport was built six years ago at a cost of US$ 3.5 billion.)
