CHINA-INTERNAL: NPC/CPPCC

Results of two online surveys by state-run media were released just a week before Delegates to China's National People's Congress (NPC) and the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) assemble in Beijing for their annual meetings. The online survey by Xinhua revealed that more than 8% of online respondents chose income redistribution as a topic they would like the NPC and CPPCC delegates to discuss. The People's Daily conducted a separate online survey which listed the top five issues as: income disparity; anticorruption efforts; the economic “new normal,” as China’s slowdown in growth is referred to domestically; food safety; and cutting red tape. Official statistics also show that China’s wealth gap has narrowed in recent years and that wealth disparity is the top concern among Chinese Internet users.
