CHINA-INDIA: US-BASED CHINESE OUTLET SAYS INDIA BEGAN TO ENCROACH ON CHINESE TERRITORY AFTER CHINA "PEACEFULLY LIBERATED" TIBET LEADING TO "ARMED CONFLICT" IN 1962

The US-based Chinese-owned Duowei News on June 28 published an article titled 'Coveting Tibet: The First Diplomatic Friction in China and India in 1950'. The article quoted the People’s Daily published an editorial on November 17, 1950, captioned “The Chinese People’s Liberation of Tibet Is Not Tolerated”, which said that "the Indian government’s attempt to prevent the PLA from marching into Tibet cannot but surprise and regret the Chinese people. Since the Indian government reiterates that it has no ambitions for Tibet and expresses the importance of the friendship between the peoples of the two countries, it should respect the Chinese government’s legitimate actions in exercising sovereignty over Tibet and let the Indian people fully understand the Chinese people’s legitimate position on the issue of liberating Tibet. This is the only way to consolidate diplomatic relations between the two countries". It added that after "the Central People's Government and the Tibetan local government signed the "Agreement on Measures for the Peaceful Liberation of Tibet" in May 1951, in Beijing, the first diplomatic friction between China and India came to an end. It explained "The reason why India established diplomatic relations with China is to show favour to the new China, which is in international isolation, mainly because it hopes that China will show its gratitude to India to retain the previous British privileges in the Tibet region and acquiesce to the "established arrangements" on the Sino-Indian border. This has planted the seeds of disputes and conflicts since the date of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and India. As China peacefully liberated Tibet, Sino-Indian territorial disputes followed. India began to encroach on Chinese territory and eventually led to a large-scale armed conflict on the Sino-Indian border in 1962".

Another article in the same paper alleged: "the deep-seated problem between China and India is that India has repeatedly misunderstood China's foreign behaviour over the past 70 years".
