Speaking at the Third Central Work Conference on Xinjiang, Chinese President Xi Jinping stressed 'that China will work hard to build a Xinjiang that follows the path of socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era and is united, prosperous, culturally advanced, harmonious & beautiful'. A 4056-character Xinhua report highlighted Xi Jinping's speech at the conference. It said In his speech Xi Jinping said 'The general goal of the work is ... to adhere to the direction of the sinicization of China’s religion, to promote and cultivate core socialist values, ... and to strengthen the party’s work in Xinjiang Leadership'. He emphasised that 'Practice has proved that the party's strategy of governing Xinjiang in the new era is completely correct and must be adhered to for a long time. The entire party must take the implementation of the party's strategy for governing Xinjiang in the new era as a political task, and work hard to implement it completely and accurately to ensure that Xinjiang work always maintains the correct political direction'. Xi Jinping pointed out that to maintain the overall social stability and long-term stability in Xinjiang, Chinese Premier Li Keqiang presided over the Conference where CPPCC Chairman Wang Yang summed up the proceedings. (Comments: An initial reading shows that Xi jinping's speech, quite obviously, makes no mention of the so-called 'vocational' or 're-education' centres established in the Xinjiang-Uyghur Autonomous Region (XUAR) and that the present hard-line policies on Xinjiang and the Uyghurs will continue; mentions a 23% increase in the XUAR's budgetary revenues over 6 years i.e. between 2014 and 2019; subsidies to the XUAR and the Bingtuan (XPCC) rose by 60% from 263 to 422 billion yuan and Xi Jinping disclosed that overall central subsidies to XUAR and Bingtuan amounted to over 2 trillion yuan; and, there was a pronounced emphasis on " 'Zhonghua' bloodlines" with none of the earlier references to the minorities being like the seeds of a pomegranate suggesting that there will be a deliberate and definitive effort to meld them with the Han.)
