CHINA-S&T: CHINA'S FIRST INTERPLANETARY SPACECRAFT TO ENTER MARS ORBIT ON FEBRUARY 10

China's state-owned CCTV announced (February 11) that China's first Mars exploration mission, Tianwen-1, successfully entered the orbit of the ring fire, achieving the first step of "circumnavigation, patrol". It said "The goal is to orbit Mars to achieve success" and that since its successful launch on July 23, 2020, the Tianwen-1 probe has successfully completed one deep-space manoeuvre and four midway corrections. Subsequent payloads such as medium-resolution cameras, high-resolution cameras, and mineral spectrometers on the Tianwen-1 probe will be turned on one after another, and they will carry out an orbital exploration for nearly three months. It is planned to land on Mars from May to June 2021. China National Space Administration’s Deputy Director Wu Yanhua had earlier announced that the plan is for the craft to orbit Mars for three months, at which point the lander will detach and descend to the surface.
