CHINA-LIANGHUI: CPPCCC/NPC PLENARY SESSIONS

The Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) opened in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on March 3, Former TAR Party Secretary Zhang Qingli announced the opening of the conference. PBSC Member and CPPCC Chairman Wang Yang delivered a speech. More than 2106 CPPCC Delegates attended the session.

The opening session of the National People's Congress (NPC) opened in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on March 4. The week-long session will conclude on March 11. In February 2021, the number of Deputies to the NPC were 2953. 70% of the members are from the CCP, 15% represent China's eight democratic parties, and 15% are from the ethnic minorities. Among the main items for approval on the agenda for this year's NPC Plenum are the: 14th Five-Year Plan. (The NPC is reviewing China’s 14th Five-Year Plan—a blueprint for China’s economic and social development through 2025—as well as a set of long-term goals for 2035); Amendments to the NPC’s two governing laws (The NPC is deliberating amendments to the NPC Organic Law [全国人民代表大会组织法] ); the NPC Rules of Procedure ([全国人民代表大会议事规则); and Hong Kong electoral reform bill (The NPC is also considered a Decision on Improving the Electoral System of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region [关于完善香港特别行政区选举制度的决定]).
