The People's Daily (March 18) published an article by Xu Jianfei of the School of Marxism, Yangzhou University, who wrote about learning from Party history. Talking of Marxism, he said that “Ideals and beliefs are the spiritual ‘calcium’ of communists” deficiency in which could lead to “chondrosis.” Xu Jianfei said that “through the glorious years and arduous journey, we have deeply understood and realized the truth and power of Marxism, deepened our understanding of the laws of the Communist Party’s governance, the laws of socialist construction, and the laws of the development of human society…”. Emphasising the importance of studying Party history, he said “Carrying out party history learning and education will help party members and cadres understand the spiritual pedigree of the Chinese Communists in a more profound and comprehensive way in understanding the historical situation and grasping the historical context, vigorously carry forward the red tradition, inherit the red gene and continue the spiritual blood of the Chinese Communists. Maintain the revolutionary spirit of fearless struggle, and muster the spirit of marching on a new journey and forging ahead into a new era.” “Carrying out party history study and education can enable party members and cadres to deeply understand the hard-won red regime, the hard-won New China, the hard-won socialism with Chinese characteristics, and a deep understanding of why the Chinese Communist Party ‘can’, why Marxism ‘does’, and why socialism with Chinese characteristics is ‘good’...”
